Questions For Book Clubs Reading Jeffrey R. Frazier’s Pennsylvania Fireside Tales Books
- Do you think these are mostly just “tall tales” – concoctions from the fertile minds of gifted story tellers, or do many have a basis in fact? Give some examples to justify your answer.
- Which was your favorite story, and why?
- Does the author provide enough details in investigating a story for the reader to answer the author’s question of “How much is fact and how much is fancy?” Are there any examples where you felt this was not the case?
- Do you think these are the types of stories that would appeal to all age groups?
If not, then which age groups would not find them of interest and why? - The tales are representative of those that were once told and retold all over Pennsylvania. Did you find any from your home county, and, if so, which ones?
- Did you recognize any of the families mentioned, and were they related to you?
- Were there any interesting places in the stories that you did not know about prior to reading the books? Share some of them.
- Did these stories bring any to mind that you heard older folks relate when you were just a child? Can you recall any of them?
